The Elusive Snowman

When we moved to Illinois a year and a half ago the kids and I eagerly awaited the first snow. Every morning we would run right to the window to see if the green yard had turned into a blanket of white. I had big plans for the snow. I, personally, could not wait to walk in it, roll in it, be buried in it and, most of all, I could not wait to make my very first snowman. I LOVE SNOWMEN! And women. I'm an equal opportunity lover of snow people.

The snow eventually came. Lots of it as a matter of fact. More than this area had seen in many years which was absolutely fine by me! What's that old saying? The more the merrier? When it comes to snow, that is my motto. In any event, whenever there was fresh snow the kids and I were outside rolling snowballs around in the drifts in an attempt to get our snowman up. It never worked. I really thought I was inept when it came to snowman making until my father-in-law enlighted me. "It has to be the right kind of snow to make a snowman." he told me one day. The right kind of snow? You mean there are different kinds of snow? So I watched and waited for "the right kind of snow" to come blowing in and you know what? It never came. We were very disappointed.

A new winter has begun and three days after Thanksgiving we woke to find that 6" of "the right kind of snow" had enveloped us overnight. Get your snow gear on kids, we're going outside! And so the process began....

We were pretty impressed with ourselves when it was finished.

So impressed that we moved on to a snow fort.

Hey, if it's there you've got to play in it. Right?
